Last 7th of May, Mindanao Container Terminal (MCT), together with the PHIVIDEC Industrial Authority (PIA) and the Bureau of Customs – Cagayan de Oro (BOC-CDO), spearheaded a virtual town hall discussion with employees, partners, port users, and other stakeholders regarding recent developments, policy updates, and strategies for growth and expansion.
Aside from covering departmental updates, the webinar also outlined system upgrades and new facilities that enhance the terminal’s capabilities.
In her presentation, Atty. Gemma Gloria, MCT General Manager, tackled the areas of growth and improvement over the past months, as well as the targets and focal points for further development–including catering to new clients and physical expansion of the MCT.
Jose Gabriel ‘Pompee’ La Viña, PIA Administrator and Chief Executive Officer, on the other hand, discussed PHIVIDEC’s five-year masterplan to develop and enhance prospective industrial areas.
PHIVIDEC I-A manages, administers, and supervises the 3,000-hectare PHIVIDEC Industrial Estate in Tagoloan and Villanueva, Misamis Oriental. Home to MCT, the estate is one of the largest in the Philippines.
Another resource speaker – John Simon, BOC-CDO District Collector, presented the milestones, updates, and plans of the Bureau. He discussed improving procedures and systems to prevent delays in the release of containers from the terminal and emphasized how integration and constant communication between all partners will help speed up transaction time and keep both partners and clients happy.
Mr. Simon also introduced systems that were instituted to enhance the BOC’s operations, such as the Customer Care Portal, which promotes the ease of doing business; the Goods Declaration and Verification System, which provides real-time updates on the status of goods declarations; the Document Tracking System, which enables the online monitoring and tracking of all documents received and generated by BOC offices; and the improved risk management system.
The webinar concluded with all partners renewing their commitment to improving and expanding their services to better serve stakeholders. For its part, MCT looks forward to expanded growth and continuing its pivotal role of making global markets more accessible to local industries.
